The Challenge

Aldridge Rugby Club had been with the same telephone provider for over a decade. Their system relied on traditional
ISDN2 lines which BT was preparing to switch off under the UK-wide PSTN migration. Call quality had become
unreliable, the club was paying line rental on numbers they no longer used, and there was no way for the admin team
to take calls when away from the clubhouse. With a busy events calendar and a growing membership, missing calls was
costing the club real money.

Our Solution

Telecom Central carried out a full audit of the club’s existing phone usage — identifying which numbers were active,
peak call times, and which staff needed mobile capability. We ported all existing numbers to a hosted 3CX cloud VoIP
platform, configured an auto-attendant to route calls intelligently during events and out-of-hours, and set up
softphone apps on staff mobiles so committee members could take and make calls on the club’s number from anywhere.
The entire migration was completed over a weekend to avoid disruption to the club’s operations.

The Outcome

Monthly telecom costs fell by 40% immediately — redundant lines were eliminated and the new hosted system costs a
fraction of the old ISDN setup. Call quality improved significantly and the auto-attendant has reduced missed calls
to near zero. Staff now handle membership enquiries and event bookings from their mobiles using the club number, and
the system is future-proofed well beyond the 2025 PSTN switch-off.
